BL Companies was awarded a professional services contract by PPL Electric Utilities Corporation to provide land surveying services to support the transmission line upgrade for the Susquehanna – Roseland 500-kV transmission line. The project includes pre-staking and final staking of 400 transmission towers during construction, staking of 100 miles of right of way limits, wetland flagging replacement and horizontal and vertical control establishment along the entire route through static GPS methodology. Secondary control has been established, utilizing RTK methodology, at various locations where additional topography along access roads is required or for field survey at substations. In addition, BL Companies provided critical survey data points utilized in viewshed analysis for the creation of before/after photo stills, which will be used in presentations to the utility owner, local governments and the general public.
BL Companies’ engineering division has been involved providing structural bridge inspection for load capacity analysis to support access road design. In addition, the team has been responsible for the permit preparation and coordination between owner and PennDOT to obtain highway occupancy permits (HOP) for access points along state and local roads.
BL Companies’ environmental division is performing inspection services for environmental compliance during construction. Environmental Compliance Inspectors are ensuring that the Contractor and all subcontractors are in compliance with the conditions of all state and local permits, including that the materials utilized for soil erosion and sedimentation control are properly installed and functioning in accordance with the project’s Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Standards. This task includes inspections of active construction zones daily, inspection of the installation of matting, monitoring of fueling practices, storm water inspections and reporting, vegetation removal and access road construction.
