Interstate 84 Auxiliary Lane Addition, Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT)
West Hartford, CT
A major interstate highway between Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, I-84 traverses Connecticut from the southwest corner to the northeast border, giving the state the highway’s longest stretch of the corridor. When the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) proposed the addition of auxiliary lanes along I-84 in West Hartford, they approached BL Companies, aiming to tap into our multi-discipline engineering, environmental, and surveying services to replace the I-84 eastbound and westbound bridges over Berkshire Road, as well as widening the superstructure for I-84 westbound over Ridgewood Road.
A vast highway project demands exceptional surveying and engineering services, and BL’s team rose to the challenge, performing detailed bridge inspections for the evaluation of the existing structures, updating CTDOT aerial maps, and completing field surveying of utility locations, delineation of inland wetlands, and detailed bridge surveys that encompassed horizontal and vertical location of abutments, haunches, seats and decks.
Knowing how difficult it can be to go through the permitting process, and with the right team in place to help the client through it, BL Companies obtained Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection Inland Wetlands and Watercourses, Stormwater Discharge Permits, Army Corps of Engineers and Flood Management Certification Approval.
