State University of New York On-Call Utility Mark-out

Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York system, contains 123 buildings on 1,100 acres. Since its founding in 1964, the University has grown tremendously. This growth and the establishment of the University Hospital in 1980 has created the need for engineering services at this major New York research university. BL Companies provided utility mark-out and ground penetrating radar services on an on-call basis for a five-year contract that began in 2004. BL Companies was rewarded for its excellent service on this contract by being awarded two more consecutive five-year term agreements for utility mark-out, extending to 2024. Mark-out technicians are available twenty-four hours a day to provide mark-out for daily scheduled work as well as emergency after-hour services in the event of a utility failure. Rapid response time is a criteria for this contract, with personnel available within two hours of notification.

BL Companies utilizes electro-magnetic induction and ground penetrating radar to locate and mark underground utilities within a specific site. If required, borings or test pits are performed to further aid in the location of the underground facilities. Work has been performed in a wide variety of locations within the University campus.
