Robert Celata

Executive Director of Architecture and Building Engineering

Bob Celata never separates himself from his team. As the Executive Director of Architecture and Building Engineering, Bob makes a point to jump in and help his team wherever he is needed. From visits to job sites to running prints in the print shop, Bob would never do something he wouldn’t ask his team to do. Despite his leadership role, Bob believes that he’s a part of his team, never above them.

Bringing over 42 years of extensive experience in building design and construction oversight across various sectors, Bob plays a pivotal role at BL Companies. His division is responsible for delivering design services encompassing architecture, MEP and structural engineering. Bob’s role involves ensuring both performance standards and client expectations are not only met but exceeded. With a knack for effective communication across all organizational levels, Bob’s ability to navigate multidisciplinary environments empowers him to manage investigative processes and contribute to effective problem-solving.

Initially beginning his career as a draftsperson with aspirations of pursuing architecture, Bob found himself adapting to circumstances. Upon completing his studies at technical school, he encountered a sluggish economy and few opportunities in architecture. He transitioned to employment at an MEP firm, gradually incorporating design responsibilities into his role. Over the years, Bob developed a strong background doing design work on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical projects, teaching himself the basics of engineering along the way. Never afraid to take on new things, Bob went into mechanical contracting, learning the difference between designing and installing, as well as immersing himself into project management and sales.

Seeking a company that wanted to grow, Bob was eventually introduced to BL Companies. With a strong background in construction and the ability to work well with others, Bob was initially hired as the Director of the MEP group before taking over the Architecture and Building Engineering division.

Bob focuses on bringing in more work and attracting new talent and putting the right people in positions to succeed. He notes that most firms don’t have the structure BL Companies has, nodding towards BL’s Leadership Foundations Program as a unique aspect that has helped him tremendously as he’s navigated his position. He also appreciates that the future of the firm is always top of mind. Seeing the members of his team grow into their positions and taking on leadership roles of their own is one of the favorite aspects of his work.
