BL Companies partnered with the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services, Division of Construction Services and the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs to design an expansion and renovation to the State of Connecticut Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.
The design was charged with creating a 3,000 niche columbarium to facilitate additional burial space for State of Connecticut Veterans and their significant others. The design of this important site included elements such as a visitor parking area, a rain garden, handicapped accessible routes and memorial plaza walk as well as a vegetate earthen berm to buffer the site from the neighboring residential area.
This project was a demonstration of high-design landscape architecture and BL’s goals and objectives were to harmonize with Connecticut’s natural landscape and create an attractive and comfortable space for all visitors and adequately accommodate large ceremonial gatherings. From material selections that complemented the existing neighborhood ecology to innovative design work that paralleled the needs from the State of Connecticut, BL Companies made the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery Expansion and Improvements project possiBLe by providing the state and its deceased veterans with a respectful, reflective, and resolute place of honor.
