No matter how good the culture is at any workplace, it can’t be taken for granted and must be maintained. One way to maintain culture is through consistent communication and transparency. The topic in the latest Inc. Leadership Forum Expert Insights is “Small Cultural Rituals With Big Impact,” and BL Companies CEO Carolyn Stanworth shared the concept of the firm’s weekly audio call.
For years now, Carolyn has led a weekly call in which every employee owner is invited but not required to attend. Here is how she explains it, and its impact, for Inc. readers:
One small cultural ritual that has a surprisingly big impact is our weekly CEO audio call every Friday at noon. Participation is completely voluntary, but over time it has become something employees genuinely rely on. Each week, I share updates on the business, recognize team accomplishments, discuss challenges we’re facing, and provide context around important decisions. It’s a simple cultural practice, but it creates a consistent rhythm of transparency and connection across the organization.
