BL Companies is currently coordinating final construction documents with the Office of School Facilities (OSF) for the New Haven Academy, which is a 72,000 SF, three-story inter-district magnet high school for grades 9-12 located in New Haven, CT. The existing 1948 building will be “renovated as new” into a modern educational facility to provide a permanent home for this college preparatory high school. Located on a tight city block bordering a well-established residential community, the building’s exterior will be transformed with new masonry cavity walls, windows and cornice to capture the character of the community. The facility will feature four new science labs along with an expanded media center with views to the exterior and smaller conference rooms and teaching stations designed to promote student collaboration. A new exterior sunken courtyard will be created to bring additional light into the lower level cafeteria while providing the students access to this new secure outdoor space. The building will receive all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, new finishes and will incorporate the latest technology and security.
Construction is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2014, the building is being designed to LEED silver equivalent and will meet the CT High Performance Building Standards.
