NCAA Softball Field and Athletic Training Complex

BL Companies conducted a feasibility study for a new softball field, which led to the funding of the project. The initial study was completed to assist in the planning of a new parking garage that was constructed on the existing softball field within the main campus. Significant planning was required to successfully fit this facility, which is surrounded by wetlands and required a stream crossing.

Construction documents were prepared for the relocation of the Eastern Connecticut State University softball field. The construction drawings were designed to accommodate a high-performance infield and sand-based root-zone mix, sod outfield, irrigation, press box, public restroom facilities, bleachers for 1,000 spectators, dugouts with player bathrooms, batting cages, bullpen, scoreboard, and sports and site lighting.

The new softball field was designed to comply with Title Nine requirements and is in compliance with ADA standards to allow access to the bleachers and seating at the stadium. The facility is also designed to accommodate NCAA tournaments and lighting for television broadcasting. A dedicated parking lot and a bridge crossing over a stream were designed to provide access to the field. BL Companies provided site due diligence, preliminary design, architecture, environmental review, cost analysis, construction documents, and construction administration for the project. In addition, the complex was considered an expansion of the University, requiring a new State Traffic Commission (STC) Certificate.
