The Meeting House Hill elementary School was “renovated as new” while remaining fully occupied for the 32 month phased construction period. The existing elementary school houses grades 3 through 5 and included the demolition of an existing 12,650 SF single story butler type-building wing that had surpassed its useful life. A new 16,500 single story addition replaced the old wing and includes classrooms, special education, office space and new boiler room. The renovations included the reallocation of existing space to support an enlarged nurse’s suite and media center. Site circulation and parking was also addressed, including a new bus drop-off loop, the creation of additional parking areas and improvements to the parent drop- off lane. The school was completed in the spring of 2013.
This school was designed to LEED Silver equivalent standards, and meets the Connecticut High Performance Building Standards.
