Hartford City Hall Energy Analysis and HVAC Evaluation

BL Companies is providing design services for an energy analysis and HVAC evaluation for the City Hall under our on-call architectural contract with the City of Hartford.

BL Companies will look at each design option; each option will be evaluated with respect to estimated construction cost, energy efficiency, yearly maintenance, and sensitivity to the buildings historic structure. Options will include, but not limited to the use of Hartford Steam and Chilled water versus a central plant, use of condensing boilers, demand control ventilation, and high efficiency heat pumps system. Each option will be electronically modeled. Actual electric, gas and utility rates will be utilized to determine energy consumption and cost. A Life Cycle Cost analysis will be performed to compare each option. The results will be presented to the City and a system design will be chosen. A schematic design for the chosen design will be performed. The schematic design will include preliminary selection of major components, one line flow diagram and system narrative.

Upon completion of the Schematic Design, our construction documents will include detailed mechanical, electrical and plumbing floor plans, elevations, equipment schedules and a project manual. The design team will attend meeting with the standing building committee as required to ensure the scope and progress of the project is clearly communicated. At the completion of the construction documents we perform an in house quality assurance review by team of engineers who were not directly involved with the design.
