Clinton Crossings

Clinton Crossing is a 275,000-square-foot shopping center, situated on State Route 81, just north of I-95. The outlets, developed by Chelsea GCA Realty, Inc., feature as many as 80 stores, including some of the most fashionable retailers in the world. Yet, in keeping with the spirit of the region, it was designed to resemble a New England village setting and to create a pleasant shopping experience. The architectural design and site layout of the shopping center retains the New England charm that is so much a part of the Connecticut shoreline.

BL Companies was involved from the early stages of concept development through to the final stages of construction closeout. The firm was responsible for on- and off-site design, land surveying, construction administration, and permitting the development through the Town, State Traffic Commission, Coastal Area Management, Army Corps of Engineers, and local agencies. Civil engineering work included the design of a storm water management system and a state-of-the-art sewage treatment system, as well as coordination of all utilities.

BL Companies was also responsible for landscape design, layout of parking areas and traffic circulation within the site. Traffic engineering involved a traffic impact/site access study, recommendations, and the design of roadway improvements and access to the factory outlet center. Off-site work consisted of the addition of turning lanes, signal installation, and improvements to State Route 81 and the exit/entrance ramps from I-95, redesign of a bridge over I-95, redesign of the access to a nearby public school and traffic signal design.

BL Companies land surveyors were responsible for all on-site and off-site construction stakeout. On-site, the project involved layout of multiple buildings, intricate pedestrian walkways and bridges, a large sewage treatment facility, storm and sanitary structures, and all utilities. A final record as-built plan was produced in multi-color for presentation to the Town, and local utility companies.
