Capitol Avenue Hydronic Piping Extension

BL Companies provided engineering and survey services to design the extension of the existing hydronic system owned and operated by the State of Connecticut.

The project site was located at a heavily used intersection in the City of Hartford. This project presented several unique challenges including protection and maintenance of pedestrian and vehicle traffic, deep excavations that required soldier piling design and various existing utilities within the new piping alignment.

BL Companies was responsible for coordinating with State and City staff, as well as the relevant utility companies and provided permitting assistance to the State and their General Contractor.

BL Companies provided utility and structural engineering design by developing plans and profiles of the new hot and chilled water piping, as well as structural details of a cast-in-place vault and excavation support system.

Additionally, BL Companies provided construction administration services that included addressing RFI’s, submittal review and project coordination.

BL Companies continues to assist the State of Connecticut in the upgrade and extension of this system as part of their on-going utility improvements program.
