Director – Project Development & Principal // Meriden, CT // Employee Owner since 2011

Can you tell us about your role as Director – Project Development? As Director – Project Development, I wear a number of hats. I oversee project development and delivery for our Transportation and Infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on client and project team engagement. I help ensure we deliver thorough, detailed proposals and agreements that establish clear expectations before any work begins. My role also includes strategic involvement throughout the planning, design, and construction phases, ensuring project goals and client needs are met while identifying and mitigating risks related to cost and schedule.

I approach each project with a fresh perspective, working closely with Project Managers to identify issues and solutions that may be outside their immediate focus. By offering a broader, strategic, and somewhat independent perspective, I can help guide the project team through the delivery process. It’s one of the things I enjoy most about my work at BL: collaborating with our clients and project teams while contributing to a wide range of projects. With over 30 years of industry experience, I enjoy using my knowledge to help ensure decisions are thoughtful, collaborative, and never made in a vacuum.

Another hat I wear is supporting business development throughout the Northeast, working with clients such as CTDOT, RIDOT, MassDOT, and numerous municipal partners across Southern New England. We have worked hard to expand our presence throughout the region and beyond. This connects to another aspect of my role that I enjoy: building relationships with existing and prospective clients, as well as highway and roadway industry partners. I also support our growth in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania markets.

Finally, I am passionate about mentoring staff. I enjoy helping Project Managers and Engineers build their skills, knowledge, and confidence as they advance in their careers.

What are you most excited about in the Public Infrastructure market? I’m very excited about the amount of work out there. There are many opportunities across different sectors, along with a variety of available funding sources. The diversity of roadway and transportation projects, ranging from roadway design and multi-use trails to parks and streetscapes, playing fields and ballfields, sidewalks, and bridges, makes it exciting to consider the potential for BL’s continued growth.

I’m also excited about expanding into new geographic areas, as I mentioned earlier. I’ve enjoyed seeing our relationships with current DOT clients, including CTDOT, RIDOT, and MassDOT, continue to grow. We look forward to continuing to expand our work with additional DOTs, state agencies, and municipal clients throughout the broader Northeast.

Having been with BL for 15 years, it’s extremely rewarding to look back at where we started and compare it to where we are today. With multiple on-call contracts and projects involving sound barrier walls, bridge removals for interchanges, and auxiliary lanes, it’s been great to demonstrate the breadth of our capabilities while consistently delivering high-quality work for CTDOT.

What are you looking forward to in your personal life? My daughter recently got engaged, so I’m looking forward to helping her plan her wedding. I’m also excited about our family trip to Scotland this month. We’ll be there for two weeks, exploring new places and enjoying new experiences. There’s so much we want to see, and I’m especially thrilled that we’ll get to share it all together as a family.

Where Collaboration and Innovation Meet

In a fast paced world of texts, emails, and deadlines where it can seem impossible to “catch up,” The BL Bulletin is a brief, useful and fun way to connect with our clients and business partners through engaging stories related to projects, people and insights from the industry.
